Roma stand firm on Cassano

Roma will not increase their contract offer to Antonio Cassano and could sell the player.

Roma are ready to listen to bids for Antonio Cassano after confirming they will not be increasing their contract offer.

The Italy international's deal runs out at the end of the season and talks regarding an extension have reached an impasse.

Cassano has, up to now, steadfastly refused to sign the terms on offer, sparking fears he could leave the club.

The Giallorossi are now prepared to accept that outcome after revealing they will not succumb to the attacker's demands.

"We made a really important offer, a top player's one and Cassano didn't accept it," Roma's sporting director Daniele Prade told Sky Italia.

"Stop. For us the thing is closed. We have a clean conscience."

Juventus have long been linked with a move for Cassano and may now try to snare the forward during January's transfer window.

Old Lady coach Fabio Capello worked with Cassano at Roma and Prade hinted the player could be sold in the New Year.

He added: "After what our chief officer Rossella Sensi said on Saturday, I think yes [Cassano could be sold]."
