The veteran defender has claimed that he agreed to the club`s request that he stayed on for an extra season last summer, but he has now revealed that he wants a new challenge.
"Last year I spoke about a desire to leave," he said. "But Lazio asked me to stay and I accepted their needs were great.
"This season I have again showed a wish to leave.
"The reasons? I have been here for 11 years and I think the moment has arrived for a change."
A reported swap deal with Internazionale`s Stephane Dalmat failed to materialise, but Lazio have admitted they will try and grant his wish.
"The club has to give him respect and we will try to content him," said Lazio president Ugo Longo.
