Surgery for Saudati

EMPOLI`S woes were compounded on Sunday with the news that striker Luca Saudati suffered a broken leg during the defeat by Lazio.

The forward is expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering a broken right tibia during a clash with Lazio keeper Angelo Peruzzi.

The pair were involved in an accidental clash shortly after the half-hour mark as Saudati raced onto a through ball.

Saudati was stretchered from the field of play, and tests revealed the true extent of the injury that will require surgery.

Empoli president Fabrizio Corsi said: "The only problem is Saudati`s injury.

"His leg fracture will keep him out for the whole season.

"This is a bad day all round for us."
