Viola duo not allowed to leave

FIORENTINA duo Marco Rossi and Nuno Gomes have had their appeal to be released from their contracts at The Viola turned down, following a lengthy meeting with the Figc.

Rossi, who arrived at the club from Salernitana, and £14 million-rated Nuno Gomes were both angry about the non-payment of wages as Fiorentina played brinkmanship with bankruptcy.

The players asserted that the fact they were not paid their wages at the allotted time was tantamount to nullifying the contract and that they should be released as free agents.

The Fiorentina fans reacted angrily to what they perceived as a betrayal to their club, and Portuguese striker Nuno Gomes received a hostile reception on his last appearance for the side.

However, the players have failed in their bid to be released, in light of news that controversial major shareholder and former president Vittorio Cecchi Gori has earmarked ‚é¼4 million to ensure wages are paid promptly for the rest of the season.
