Viola take double step forward

FIORENTINA have taken two major steps that they hope will help them begin the lengthy trek back from their flirtation with bankruptcy.

Primarily they have appointed Ugo Poggi as the permanent replacement to Vittorio Cecchi Gori as president.

The controversy surrounding Gori is well publicised, but the controversial figure - held by many Viola fans as the man who nearly ruined their club - is still the major shareholder.

However, Gori has earmarked a ‚é¼4 million figure that will pay the wages of the players for the next two months - something that could possibly draw an end to the appeals of Marco Rossi and Nuno Gomes.

The two players had asked for their contracts to be rescinded after failing to be paid their rightful wages.
