Pettina leaves Atalanta

ATALANTA midfielder Federico Pettina has left the club to join Serie C side Alessandria on loan.

The 20-year-old has never played a Serie A match, and is thought to need lower leagues football to gain some experience.

Meanwhile, Nerazzurri coach Gianni Vavassori is chasing Venezia trio William Viali, Antonio Marasco and Filippo Maniero.

Viali played for Lecce last season, and was very useful for the Giallorossi, but this season, he has been unable to hold down a first team place at Luigi Penzo Stadium and is understood to be looking for a move away from Venezia as soon as possible.

Midfielder Marasco was a favoured player under former Venezia coach Cesare Prandelli, but has fallen out of favour under new boss Luigi Magni.

Maniero is the prime target of Atalanta, but the player has also been linked with British clubs.

Venezia president Maurizio Zamparini is looking to sell to generate funds for team building, and cut costs for the likely return to Serie B.

Finally, Atalanta have signed Chievo full back Paolo Foglio.

The Nerazzurri already owned half of the player's contract and have now gained total control.
