The Giallorossi had started the day a point behind Inter, but are now a point ahead after a 1-0 success at home to Empoli.

A 75th minute goal from Tomas Danilevicius secured Livorno a 1-0 triumph at previously unbeaten Messina.

Sampdoria edged a five-goal thriller at home to Parma, who finished the match with 10 men after Domenico Morfeo was sent off.

Daniele Dessena put the visitors ahead on four minutes, but Samp were level midway through the half when Daniele Franceschini levelled.

Gennaro Delvecchio and Emiliano Bonazzoli put Samp in front before Matteo Contini pulled one back with a penalty.

Ascoli are still awaiting a first win of the season after grinding out a 0-0 draw at Udinese.
