Amelia banned for three games

Livorno's Marco Amelia has been banned for three matches.

Livorno's controversial goalkeeper Marco Amelia has been handed the expected three-game ban.

Amelia publicly complained about one of the linesmen after Livorno's game with Cagliari which ended 3-3.

The keeper's frustrations were not only restricted to public complaint either; TV images show the Livorno goalkeeper trying to slap the referee's assistant while he attempted to enter the dressing room at half time.

The Italian sport judge has banned Amelia for three games for agressive behaviour, and Livorno are yet to confirm whether the decision will be appealed against.

Amelia apologised immediately after the incident, suggesting he never intended to slap the assistant, but his apologies have not allowed him to escape severe punishment.

The Italian goalkeeper is now scheduled to miss games against Lazio, Fiorentina and Udinese.
