SONCK SET FOR SCHALKE SWITCH?

SCHALKE have been linked with a move for Belgian international striker Wesley Sonck as the departure of countryman Emile Mpenza looks increasingly likely.

The Racing Genk front-man, 23, is one of the brightest prospects in his homeland and Royal Blues coach Huub Stevens is reportedly poised to add the player to the Belgian contingent at the Arena AufSchalke.

Nico van Kerckhoven, Sven Vermant, Marc Wilmots and the under-fire Mpenza are all international team-mates of Sonck and the star may relish the chance to join his compatriots in Gelsenkirchen.

If the £3 million-rated Sonck does move to the Ruhr club it could spell the end of temperamental striking ace Mpenza who has fallen out-of-favour at the Bundesliga runners-up.
