WERDER SEAL SILVA SWITCH

PERUVIAN target-man Roberto Silva has agreed to join Werder Bremen and try to fill the void left by compatriot Claudio Pizarro.

The 25-year-old striker has been in negotiations with Werder for the past week and is poised to sign a two-year contract at the Weserstadion in a £1.5 million deal.

'The white tank' expressed his delight at having the opportunity to play in Europe and believes the time was right to leave Sporting Cristal.

"It is an honour for any player to play in one of the best leagues in the world," beamed Silva.

"It is a huge responsibility to join a club like Bremen especially when you get compared to Claudio Pizarro.

"Everyone has their aims and I have already established mine. I have always wanted to leave my country if the chance was there," he added.

Klaus Allofs (pictured), Bremen director of sport, welcomed the arrival of the Lima-born star, enthusing: "We don't have anyone like him in the squad. He is good in the air and offers a whole new dimension to the team."
