Bremen chase Fritz

Werder Bremen are looking to add midfielder Clemens Fritz to their title chasing squad.

Former Bundesliga champions Werder Bremen are looking to add midfielder Clemens Fritz to their title chasing squad.

The 2004 winners are keen to snap up the 25-year-old, and have made their move after it became clear he wanted to move on from Bayer Leverkusen.

Bremen's director of sport Klaus Allofs has already confirmed that the club have opened talks with the talented midfielder and are hopeful of wrapping-up a deal for the player.

"We're very interested in him and I believe we have a good chance of landing him, but we are still in talks with his adviser," Allofs told German daily newspaper, Syker Kreiszeitung.

It is not yet clear whether Bremen will look to complete the signing before the end of the transfer window or negotiate a deal to bring Fritz to the club in the summer.

Werder are currently second in Die Bundesliga, eight points behind leaders Bayern Munich.
