Hertha Berlin defender Malik Fathi has been called into the German squad to face Sweden on Wednesday.New Germany boss Joachim Low nominated the 22-year-old on Monday after defensive stalwarts Per Mertesacker and Christoph Metzelder were forced to withdraw for the game in Gelsenkirchen through injury.
Fathi, who has made a total of 71 Bundesliga appearances for the capital city outfit, won 18 caps for Germany's Under-21 team, but has yet to play a full international.
"He has shown continually good performances in both the Bundesliga and for the U21s," Low commented.
