Mainz claimed a late point against Eintracht Frankfurt while Hamburg held Hertha Berlin.

Mainz could have surged top with a big enough win against Eintracht Frankfurt, but had to settle for a late point against the nine men.

A shock looked on the cards for much of the match with Ioannis Amanatidis first half strike firing the visitors ahead.

Christoph Spycher saw red for collecting a second yellow card and the home side made their numerical advantage count with Ranislav Jovanovic equalising.

There was still time for Frankfurt to lose another man and in the 88th minute Aleksander Vasoski also saw red.

Elsewhere, Hamburg looked on course for their first win of the new Bundesliga campaign when Boubacar Sanogo scored after 18 minutes.

However, their lead would not last as Christian Gimenez levelled matters just after the hour mark.

Hamburg finished the contest a man light as Collin Benjamin was dismissed in injury time as their third draw.
