Wolves to sign Belgian star

Wolfsburg have signed Belgium defender Peter van der Heyden.

Bundesliga leaders VfL Wolfsburg have announced that Belgian stopper Peter van der Heyden will be their first new signing for the coming season.

The 28-year-old left-sided defender will move to the VW Arena on a free transfer after his current contract with Belgian outfit Brugge expires in June 2005.

Van der Heyden has put pen to paper on a three-year deal.

Wolves coach Erik Gerets expressed his delight at landing his compatriot, saying,

"I've known him for a long time and am very pleased that he is joining us.

"He is a good footballer and has an excellent character."
