Wolves hit by defender blow

VfL Wolfsburg defender Peter Van der Heyden will be out of action for at least six weeks.

Wolfsburg defender Peter Van der Heyden will be out of action for at least six weeks with a knee injury.

The Belgian international limped out of Wolves' disappointing goalless home draw with Hertha Berlin on Sunday and an MRI scan on Monday revealed the true extent of the damaged ligaments.

The loss of such a senior player will come as a bitter blow to Wolfsburg coach Klaus Augenthaler who is already under pressure after a poor run of form towards the end of last term.

The ambitious north German outfit were nearly relegated to Bundesliga Zwei and Augenthaler is well aware that a repeat performance will not be tolerated.
