Chivu ban reduced

AJAX defender Cristian Chivu has had his three-game suspension reduced after an appeal to the KNVB's legal commission.

Chivu was initially handed the ban for his sending off for a reckless tackle in the Amstel Cup clash against Feyenoord.

The Ajax skipper was punished, along with team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who collected a five-game ban for elbowing a Feyenoord defender.

But Ajax appealed against Chivu's suspension and their plea was successful in the respect that one of the games is now a conditional suspension.

The Romanian stopper will miss Eredivisie fixtures against NEC Nijmegen and De Graafschap and hope he does not fall foul of Dutch officials again.

Meanwhile, the commission have confirmed a four-week ban, one of which is conditional, for RKC Waalwijk defender Peter van den Berg.

He was sent off for fighting with Henk Vos in the recent tussle with RBC Roosendaal and his suspension, like Chivu's, starts with immediate effect.
