Keeper fears eased

Fears over the well-being of Maarten Stekelenburg have been eased.

Ajax will be without Maarten Stekelenburg at the weekend, but his knee injury is not as bad as was initially feared.

The keeper was absent from the 5-0 win over Den Bosch after twisting his knee in training.

There were fears that he had damaged ligaments in his knee which could have sidelined him for a number of months.

However, a scan has shown that the highly rated youngster has only strained a tendon and could be back in action in the next week.

Ajax face Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League next week, but it is not yet clear if he will be fit in time for the trip to Germany.

Stekelenburg's absence has opened the door for Bogdan Lobont, who was dislodged as number one in Amsterdam at the start of the season.
