Sonck joins Foals

Wesley Sonck has completed his move to Borussia Monchengladbach.

Wesley Sonck has completed his move to Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach.

A fee had already been finalised between the Foals and Dutch giants Ajax, and now the striker has agreed personal terms.

The Amsterdam side have revealed that Sonck confirmed the deal at the Borussia Park on Tuesday, committing himself to the German side until June 2008.

No official fee has been revealed although media reports have speculated that a sum of around ‚é¼4 million will be paid in instalments.

Boss Dick Advocaat will be hoping that Sonck's arrival can inspire five-time champions Monchengladbach to steer away from the relegation zone after a bitterly disappointing first half of the season.

Ajax manager Ronald Koeman gave Sonck few chances to prove himself at the Amsterdam ArenA, and the arrival of Greek star Angelos Charisteas further inhibited his first team opportunities.

The 26-year-old will now join up with his new team-mates in time for the first league game back after the winter break, and Sonck's agent has described how the transfer was a quick and easy process.

"Nearly everything was settled on Monday. The team really wanted him and then you can complete the deal quickly of course," said Willy Hox on VRT Teletekst.

Sonck joins fellow countryman Bernd Thijs, German international midfielder Jorg Bohme and former Rangers stopper Craig Moore as the fourth new face at the club this winter.
