Lothar wants Babos apology

Lothar Matthaus says Gabor Babos will not feature for Hungary until he apologises.

Lothar Matthaus has revealed that Feyenoord keeper Gabor Babos will not feature for the Hungarian national team until he apologises for his recent outburst.

Babos recently signed for Feyenoord and informed Matthaus that he did not want to be called up for the upcoming internationals unless he was handed the starting slot ahead of Gabor Kiraly.

Matthaus was far from happy with Babos's stance and informed him he would not be called up again until he accepts a role in the squad.

"Gabor Babos won't be a member of my squad while I'm the national coach," said the German tactician. "He said he wanted to be the first choice, but after this affair he won't be second or even third.

"I'll change my mind if he apologises for his point of view in front of me and the team."

Babos believes he is in the right, as he told Nemzeti Sport: "Before the Scotland game I told Matthaus my opinion and he said he understood but couldn't accept the decision.

"Matthaus asked me to think it over. I have but I haven't changed my mind.

"I've been with the national team for eight years, mostly as the second choice, and I have never complained nor faked injuries.

"I don't think I should apologise. Soon I will be 30 and it's not my cup of tea to be misguided.

"I am now out of the squad, but any time I am needed to go, I will go."
