Koeman's Farnerud regret

Erwin Koeman has expressed disappointment at failing to sign Pontus Farnerud.

Feyenoord coach Erwin Koeman has expressed disappointment at failing to sign Swedish midfielder Pontus Farnerud on transfer deadline day.

Koeman had been keen to pep up his squad in order to challenge PSV Eindhoven for the Eredivisie title and had trained his sights on Strasbourg's experienced Swede Farnerud.

Feyenoord worked hard to strike a deal with their French counterparts, but left the negotiating table with nothing to show for their efforts.

"I would have liked to have that player, but we weren't successful," conceded Koeman. "It's a pity, but this is the situation."

Having seen 13 players leave the club and only brought in Pierre van Hooijdonk and Ron Vlaar, Koeman has added youngsters Royston Drenthe and Diego Bisiswar to his senior squad.
