Bakkati to play for Morocco

Heerenveen defender Said Bakkati has accepted an invitation to play for Morocco.

Heerenveen defender Said Bakkati has accepted an invitation to play for Morocco, ruling out the possibility of representing the Netherlands.

The 22-year-old's efforts this season have been hit by a knee injury, but he has caught the eye in his fleeting visits.

He holds dual nationality and could have figured for Marco van Basten's Oranje, but he looks set to end that possibility by turning out for Morocco.

"I'm very happy and it's also true that if you reject a country like Morocco, you won't get another call up quickly," Bakkati told the club's website.

"My parents were very proud of me. My father said that I should immediately grab this chance."

NAC Breda's Ali Boussaboun has also been invited to join the Morocco squad for the first time.
