NAC battled back from two goals early on to win an unlikely point.
Roda got off to the perfect start with Cristiano firing them in front after just seven minutes and he doubled the lead with his second 13 minutes later.
NAC fought back in the second half and pulled a goal back on 57 minutes through Johan Elmander.
Roda looked set to hold on for the win, but NAC grabbed a share of the spoils when Engelaar kept his nerve to score from the spot.
The point lifts Roda into fifth place while NAC climb up to 13th spot.
