NEC dealt defender blow

NEC Nijmegen have lost Jeffrey Leiwakabessy for the next six weeks.

Eredivisie strugglers NEC Nijmegen have been dealt a huge blow with the news that Jeffrey Leiwakabessy will miss the next six weeks due to injury.

The key defender was forced off after 26 minutes of the 1-0 defeat by Ajax at the weekend.

A thorough examination has revealed a tear to the defender's hamstring which will require a six-week period of inactivity to heal.

Coach Johan Neeskens saw Patrick Pothuizen and Frank Demouge go under the surgeon's knife last month and this latest setback will be a bitter pill to swallow.

NEC are in the wrong half of the table and Neeskens will hope to get his key players back soon in a bid to climb the table.
