Said opts for Morocco

NEC Nijmegen midfielder Said Boutahar has opted to play for Morocco.

NEC Nijmegen midfielder Said Boutahar has followed the lead of Said Bakkati and Ali Boussaboun in accepting an invitation to play for Morocco.

Like his fellow Eredivisie stars, Boutahar has dual nationality and qualifies for the Netherlands as well as Morocco.

The 22-year-old has represented the Oranje at various ages and turned out for the country at the 2001 World Youth Cup in Argentina.

Full national boss Marco van Basten included Boutahar in his pre-selection for the games with Liechtenstein and Czech Republic, but did not field him.

Despite van Basten stating that he felt Boutahar could play a part for him in the future, the midfielder has decided to link up with Morocco.

"My choice is beyond doubt, I would rather play for Morocco," Boutahar told AD Sportwereld.
