Sven names England squad

Danny Murphy, Scott Parker and Emile Heskey have failed to earn England recalls.

England coach Sven Goran Eriksson has decided against handing recalls to Danny Murphy, Scott Parker or Emile Heskey.

Eriksson has named a 24-man party for the forthcoming crucial World Cup qualifiers against Austria and Poland.

The decision not to recall Murphy is a real shock to many after the former Liverpool man's blazing start to the new campaign.

Likewise, both Parker and Heskey had hoped they would be welcomed back in the England fold - but Eriksson has decided against it.

Two players did earn recalls in the shape of Sol Campbell and more surprisingly, Alan Smith.

Stephen Warnock and Matthew Upson have all been overlooked this time around.

Michael Carrick, Owen Hargreaves, Andy Johnson and Gary Neville are all injured and were not considered.

Despite Murphy missing out, Charlton do have representation in the squad, with Darren Bent and Luke Young both retaining their places.

Peter Crouch and Kieran Richardson are also included once again.

Squad in full: Paul Robinson (Tottenham), Robert Green (Norwich), Chris Kirkland (Liverpool/West Brom); Ashley Cole (Arsenal), Phil Neville (Everton), Luke Young (Charlton), Jamie Carragher (Liverpool), Rio Ferdinand (Man Utd), John Terry (Chelsea), Sol Campbell (Arsenal), Ledley King (Tottenham); David Beckham (Real Madrid), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Chelsea), Jermaine Jenas (Tottenham), Alan Smith (Man Utd), Kieran Richardson (Man Utd); Michael Owen (Newcastle), Wayne Rooney* (Man Utd), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Darren Bent (Charlton), Peter Crouch (Liverpool).

* Rooney is suspended for the Austria clash.
