Carroll wants to call the tune

Roy Carroll has set his sights on reclaiming his place as first choice for Northern Ireland.

Roy Carroll has set his sights on reclaiming his place as first choice goalkeeper for Northern Ireland.

The Manchester United star is battling it out with Birmingham's Maik Taylor to start for Lawrie Sanchez's side.

Carroll has boosted his chances by taking over from Tim Howard as Manchester United's first choice and now he wants to do the same on the international stage.

"I am still enjoying my time with Northern Ireland but I want to get back in the team," said Carroll.

"At the moment Maik is doing really well. But I am knocking on the door if anything goes wrong.

"To be honest we try to help each other, not knock each other down.

"We are good pals on and off the pitch. We need to be as on trips like these we are in each other's company almost 24 hours a day."
