Lippi leaves out big names

Marcello Lippi has left out some of Italy's most recognisable forwards.

Marcello Lippi has left some of Italy's most recognisable forwards out of his Italy squad to face Scotland in Milan.

Lippi had hinted that Christian Vieri and Alessandro Del Piero would not be included and he was true to his word - with controversial but brilliant striker Antonio Cassano and young star Alberto Gilardino both included, along with Mauro Esposito of Cagliari and Palermo's Luca Toni.

Vieri's absence is due to a knee injury, but Del Piero scored at the weekend and is Juventus' top scorer in the league.

Del Piero's team-mate Mauro Camoranesi is brought back into the fold, and Roma's Daniele De Rossi will hope he can continue his big impact in the national side.

Gianluca Zambrotta is suspended for the game, handing a chance to impress to either Fabio Grosso or Fiorentina's Giorgio Chiellini.
