Azzurri accept De Rossi ban

The Italian Federation will not appeal midfielder Daniele De Rossi's four-match ban.

The Italian Football Federation will not appeal World Cup midfielder Daniele De Rossi's four-match suspension.

Azzurri officials have welcomed the leniency of the ban meted out, which came as a result of the Roma man's elbow on USA striker Brian McBride.

McBride was left bloodied by the incident and needed stitches to repair the cut on his face, but has magnanimously accepted De Rossi's apology and Italian officials have accepted their player's punishment in a similar vein.

"I'm satisfied because evidently Fifa took into consideration the player's letter in which he apologised, as he has already done to the opponent, as well as the Italian Federation's attitude," Azzurri official Giancarlo Abete revealed.

"We are sorry about the ban, but our evaluation of the episode is good."

De Rossi would now only be able to make a return for the final, should Marcello Lippi's men get that far, but with Argentina and hosts Germany still on their side of the draw that will be an almighty ask.
