Ajax's new signing Mauro Rosales was on target in Argentina's 3-1 win over Peru in World Cup qualifying.

Rosales has yet to feature for Ajax, having been on international duty since penning his deal, but he will head to Amsterdam on a high following his performance in Lima.

The Argentines started the game well and were rewarded when Rosales popped up with the opener on 13 minutes, rifling home a fine right-footed drive from the edge of the box.

Peru are always a force on home soil and they rallied after the interval and drew level when Jorge Soto found his range just after the hour.

However, Marcelo Bielsa's side bounced back and Fabricio Coloccini restored their advantage on 65 minutes with a neat header.

The final 25 minutes were tense for the visitors and it was not until Juan Pablo Sorin eased the nerves with a last minute goal that they could relax, safe in the knowledge that the win had taken them top of the World Cup qualifying pool.
