Liverpool fans to visit Celtic for rail seating insight

Liverpool Celtic

Liverpool fans will visit Celtic Park this weekend as part of ongoing discussions around rail seating.

Last year, 88 per cent of fans voted in favour of rail seating in a poll run by the supporters group, Spirit of Shankly, in which 18,000 fans took part.

Spirit of Shankly now says it will attend Celtic's visit of Ross County on Saturday accompanied by "fellow supporters, Hillsborough families and survivors" in order to gain a more informed understanding of rail seating.

The Hillsborough disaster prompted the 1990 Taylor Report, which recommended that all major stadiums convert to an all-seater model.

A Spirit of Shankly statement said: "We fully appreciate the sensitivities around this visit. This will be a difficult experience for some, and one that should not be under-estimated. We invited both Hillsborough groups to attend and we are grateful to those who are able to."

The fans group made clear the visit is "not an endorsement, nor a pre-cursor to calling for it at Anfield".
