Luke Campbell suffered the first defeat of his professional career as he was floored by Yvan Mendy in a shock points loss at The O2.
The Olympic gold medallist was floored for the first time in his professional career during a ragged defensive display and Mendy received a split decision with scores of 115-112, 115-113, while the third judge scored it 115-113 for Campbell.
Ambitious plans for the 28-year-old lightweight will have to be put on hold after he endured a harsh lesson at the hands of Mendy in London, which was the scene of his Olympic triumph.
In the first round, Campbell shifted his punches smoothly from head to body, with Mendy marching forward behind a high guard.
A sharp left hand bounced off the Frenchman's forehead in the second round, but Campbell was caught by a short right hook before the bell.

Forced onto the back foot, Campbell received another right hand in the third, and dug in body shots in a bid to stall Mendy's march forward.
Gaping holes in the Hull man's defence were exposed in the fifth round as a left hook put him on the seat of his pants and the former amateur star wore a shocked expression at the bell.
During a quieter sixth, Campbell kept his rugged opponent at bay, but Mendy would maintain his assault in the seventh and had more success with his right hand.
Campbell, facing his first crisis, unloaded a crisp combination of his own in the eighth, while the crowd came to life after he lashed a left through Mendy's defence in the ninth.
But the former French champion resumed his brutal assault in the 10th, ramming in a big right hand as Campbell was bullied to the ropes.
Back came Campbell in the 11th and he stood and traded with a determined foe, while the Yorkshireman appeared to edge the final round with his higher workrate, although his late efforts were not enough to salvage victory.
