Barnsley v Watford Preview

Hume faces long lay-off for Tykes while Ward is back for Watford

Barnsley's Iain Hume is definitely out after suffering a fractured skull against Sheffield United on Saturday. The striker will now face up to six months on the sidelines after undergoing an operation and spending time in a high dependency unit in hospital. Jon Macken will also miss out for the Tykes as he is yet to recover from a hamstring injury which also kept him out of the Sheffield United game. Brazilian Anderson De Silva sits out as he begins a three-match ban but Barnsley boss Simon Davey will have a selection headache in the striker department. The home side have only scored 15 goals in 16 games this season but have loanees Simon Whaley, from Preston and Maceo Rigters, from Blackburn, plus Kayodi Odejayi, and Miguel Mostto all available for selection up front. Hornets' News Darren Ward could return to the Watford side after missing the 1-0 Carling Cup win over Swansea City as the defender was cup-tied. But caretaker manager Malky Mackay may opt to keep the central defensive pairing of Leigh Bromby and Jay DeMerit after the Hornets kept their first clean sheet in five games against Swansea. Mackay made five changes for the Carling Cup tie and the likes of Mat Sadler, John-Joe O'Toole and Grzegorz Rasiak will all be hoping for recalls. Scott Loach (abdominal) is out as is goalkeeper Mart Poom (shoulder) while Gareth Williams remains a long-term doubt with a cruciate ligament injury.
