Two late goals from Gianni Bruno and Adama Ba earned Bastia their first win of the new Ligue 1 season after seeing off the challenge of Valenciennes 2-0 on Saturday.
Valenciennes came into the match having beaten Toulouse 3-0 first time out while Bastia had lost 2-0 at promoted Nantes, but it was Frederic Hantz's men who were celebrating tonight thanks to Bruno and Ba.
Bruno opened the scoring in the 78th minute and Ba added a second two minutes later with a diving header to seal the victory.
Bastia will feel they deserved the three points after creating the better of the chances in the match, with Sambou Yatabare heading a Julian Palmieri free-kick just over in the seventh minute before Claudiu Keseru narrowly failed to the hit the target on the stroke of half-time with a left-foot volley.
VA only had the one effort of note before the break, which saw Gregory Pujol set up Marco Da Silva for a close-range shot that Bastia goalkeeper Mickael Landreau kept out.
The visitors created another opportunity at the start of the second half but Jean Christophe Bahebeck could not keep his shot down after getting past Palmieri.
That was the last time Valenciennes seriously threatened and Bastia took the points thanks to their late goals.
Bruno went close with a header in the 62nd minute but he was not to be denied 12 minutes from time when he picked up a header from Yatabare before beating visiting goalkeeper Nicolas Penneteau with a low drive.
Yatabare was also involved two minutes later as Bastia doubled their lead, with his cross from the right being powered home by the diving Ba.
