Cherries and Latics share spoils

Oldham were furious at being denied a goal just before half-time as they shared a 0-0 draw at Bournemouth.

Chasing a fourth straight win in all competitions, Oldham claimed the ball had gone at least a foot over the line during a frantic far-post goalmouth scramble. Bournemouth defender Steve Cook, standing behind the line, denied Latics' Robbie Simpson, who raised his arms in celebration - only for referee Andy D'Urso to dismiss his goal claims. Oldham, handicapped by a first-half leg injury to influential midfielder Chris Taylor, were worth a point from a dour, scrappy match lacking in creativity and with few goalscoring opportunities. Bournemouth, boasting only two home wins all season, found a well-organised Oldham almost impossible to break down. Virtually their only chances came at the start, when Marc Pugh missed from close range, and in stoppage time when substitute Charlie Sheringham lashed a 20-yard drive onto the visitors' crossbar, with goalkeeper Alex Cisak beaten.
