Columbus Crew took a giant leap towards the Eastern Conference final after beating 10-man New York City FC 4-1 in the first leg of their MLS Cup play-off semi-final on Tuesday.
Columbus, who have not lost in Major League Soccer since August, had four different scorers at the Mapfre Stadium and will fancy their chances of finishing the job in New York on November 5.
Ola Kamara opened the scoring for the hosts in the sixth minute before Alexander Callens was sent off for New York early in the second half after being adjudged to have elbowed Justin Meram.
Artur doubled Columbus' lead just six minutes after the red card and Meram added a third in the 69th minute.
David Villa pulled a goal back after 78 minutes after pouncing on a Jonathan Mensah error, but Harrison Afful restored Columbus' three-goal advantage with a fantastic solo goal in added time.
