Crawley overcome 10-man Daggers

Leaders Crawley came from behind to see off 10-man Dagenham and Redbridge 3-1 and clinch their seventh successive win.

Dagenham, going into the game having lost eight of their previous nine, shocked the hosts when midfielder Oliver Lee gave them a ninth-minute lead with a free-kick from 35 yards. Lee struck the ball sweetly and goalkeeper Scott Shearer was unable to keep it out as he fumbled it at the foot of a post. But the Daggers were reduced to 10 men after 17 minutes when Scott Doe was shown a straight red card for hauling down the onrushing Matt Tubbs, leaving Town's top scorer to step up and level with his ninth of the season from the resulting penalty. Crawley 'keeper Shearer turned a goalbound shot from Jon Nurse round a post shortly before the interval. And the high-flying home side went ahead in first-half stoppage time when Josh Simpson's cross was laid back by John Akinde for Argentinian Sergio Torres to fire home from close range. Daggers' hard-pressed 'keeper Chris Lewington brilliantly denied Torres a second goal by blocking his goalbound shot with his feet, before substitute Jon-Paul Pittman headed Crawley's third at the far post five minutes from time.
