Crewe captain George Ray is a doubt for the visit of Colchester.

The centre-back was forced off just 20 minutes into the midweek win at Crawley after aggravating a groin muscle.

Jon Guthrie (hernia) and Danny Hollands (hamstring) remain absent.

Reserve goalkeeper Dave Richards has undergone surgery on a fractured finger so Andy Dawber, on-loan from Altrincham, continues to provide back-up to Ben Garratt.

Forward Rekeil Pyke could retain his place in the Colchester side after the Huddersfield loanee impressed on his first start in the midweek win over Mansfield.

Owen Garvan will be assessed on a knee problem as the U's look to maintain their push for the play-offs.

Midfielder Doug Loft (Achilles) and defender Tom Eastman (ankle) have a chance to return before the end of the season.
