Frank Lampard got the better of old Chelsea team-mate Didier Drogba as his goal helped New York City beat Montreal 3-1 in the MLS.
Lampard's fifth goal in six games came five minutes from time and settled the argument after Montreal's Harry Shipp had halved the visitors' 2-0 half-time lead.
Drogba - back in the Impact side after injury - embraced Lampard at the end of what was their first MLS meeting.
Another of New York's big-name players gave them the lead before the break, David Villa strengthening his position at the top of the league's scoring charts with a 35th-minute opener.
Jack Harrison added a solo second, but Shipp's cross drifted in to give Montreal hope before Lampard's deflected effort closed the door and kept his side top of the Eastern Conference.
"People will recognise the difference from us last year," Lampard said afterwards. "We were struggling throughout the year and now we're playing with a different confidence.
"We're playing from the back, playing good football, we're scoring lots of goals, so we need to concentrate on ourselves."
