Hibernian retained their place at the Scottish Championship summit after they came from behind to secure a draw at Morton on Kris Commons' debut.
Emergency-loan signing Commons started at Cappielow, showing some nice touches, but all the drama came in the final quarter, Morton's Gary Oliver forcing the ball home after the ball had twice struck the goalframe.
But the cheers in the Cowshed had barely subsided when Hibs' substitute Jason Cummings found the bottom corner with a delicious free-kick from 25 yards to keep the Edinburgh side ahead of Dundee United on goal difference.
United had Lewis Toshney sent off and Tony Andreu missed a penalty as they were forced to settle for 0-0 draw at Raith Rovers.
Andreu was denied from the spot by a sharp stop from Rovers goalkeeper Kevin Cuthbert 15 minutes from time.
United were reduced to 10 men when former Rovers defender Toshney was ordered off after collecting a second booking. Rudi Skacel struck the bar for Raith, but it was to finish goalless.
Stephen Dobbie's 16th of the season secured a point for Queen of the South from their mid-table tussle with Dunfermline Athletic.
Darren Brownlie gave the hosts a 39th-minute lead but Jason Talbot's cracking volley and Kallum Higginbotham's header turned it round but Dobbie had the final say with a late tap-in.
Dumbarton picked up a valuable win at the bottom as they edged out Falkirk by the odd goal in three, Garry Fleming's right-foot effort wining the day after Robert Thomson's headed opener had been cancelled out by Craig Sibbald's fourth of the season.
Ayr United drop into ninth spot after a 1-1 draw at bottom club St Mirren who, after a chastening couple of months, were looking to make it a hat-trick of wins.
Lawrence Shankland missed from spot before Paul Cairney gave the visitors the lead just after the hour, but United lost Jamie Adams to a red card and John Sutton took full advantage to level nine minutes from time.
