Reece Wabara has joined Wigan shortly after his deal with Sky Bet League 1 rivals Barnsley expired.
The former Manchester City trainee, 24, has signed a contract at the DW Stadium until the end of the season as manager Gary Caldwell continues to shake up a squad that has undergone plenty of change over the past few months.
"With Donald Love recalled to Manchester United and Kevin McNaughton still unable to join the squad full-time yet, we needed someone who can operate on the right side of defence and we are delighted Reece can come on board," Caldwell told Latics' official website.
"He is an experienced defender at this level, is quick and dynamic and can play the wing-back role or as part of a flat four."
