Bournemouth striker Josh King has admitted he hardly slept the night before the win over Southampton due to the birth of his son.
The 24-year-old's partner gave birth to a baby boy on Tuesday morning after going into labour the night before, but King was desperate to take part in the south coast derby.
He won the free-kick which led to the first goal as Bournemouth beat their rivals 2-0 at the Vitality Stadium but was replaced in the 70th minute by Lewis Grabban after picking up an Achilles injury.
King said: "The gaffer did phone me and I said I had got a couple of hours because we needed those points and I wanted to be a part of it."
While a positive night for Bournemouth's survival aspirations, Howe did have to contend with losing three key players as Junior Stanislas joined King and Harry Arter in picking up injuries.
Stanislas is expected to be out for four to six weeks with a torn hamstring, while Arter also suffered an Achilles injury with a time frame for he and King to return yet to be determined.
