Danny Ings is eager to build on his goal against West Brom and start to repay the faith shown in him by Liverpool during his injury nightmare.

Ings opened the scoring in Saturday's 2-2 draw at The Hawthorns, a result he admitted was "disappointing", but the former Burnley striker was still able to celebrate his first Premier League goal since October 2015.

The 25-year-old's career has since been set back by two serious knee injuries, the first of which came not long after he made his senior England debut against Lithuania.

And Ings, who was starting his second game of the month, wants to kick on after admitting a weight had been lifted off his shoulders by his early strike.

"I said to the lads I didn't know what it was going to feel like when I scored, and it was more relief," Ings told Liverpool's official website.

"Today is a positive step on a personal note. It's something I do want to build on - I believe in myself and I believe in this team.

"I've got quality players around me that I'm learning from every single day and that doesn't stop now and I'll keep building.

"It's what I've been fighting for the last two years, moments like that [the goal].

"It would have been quite easy to give up with the challenges put in front of me but I kept at it, I kept grafting and my team-mates, the fans [and] the club have been fantastic and I just want to build on that now."

Ings also received praise from Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who is certain goals will flow now he is back to full fitness.

The German said: "It was always clear that when Danny is fit, healthy and can keep the intensity in training - which he has been doing now for a long time - he will score goals in the Premier League.

"We didn't have too many opportunities for him; that's not so nice but on the other hand it's a normal life for a professional football player.

"It was a very nice game for him, for sure but a very hard one as well. He was constantly a threat, that's good and I'm happy about that."
