Sky Blues sign O'Halloran on a free

Coventry City have signed left-back Stephen O'Halloran from Aston Villa on a free transfer. The 22-year-old has agreed a one-year deal at the Ricoh Arena and is expected to be unveiled by manager Aidy Boothroyd on Thursday. The defender's progress at Villa Park was limited due to a cruciate knee ligament injury although O'Halloran did have loan spells at Wycombe, Southampton, Leeds and Swansea during his four-year spell at the Premier League club. The Republic of Ireland international passed a medical on Monday and has agreed terms. Boothroyd said: "Stephen is a young attacking full-back. He is quick and strong and a good defender with a lot of potential." In other news, Boothroyd has distanced the club from a move for former Watford and Wigan striker Marlon King. King, who is currently serving an 18-month prison sentence, made his name under the tutelage of Boothroyd at Watford before making a £5million move to Wigan in 2008. The 30-year-old will be available on a free transfer when he is expected to be released from jail this summer. Boothroyd told the Coventry Telegraph: "Marlon King is a player that lost his way and then came to me at Watford and got himself going again and became a fantastic asset to Watford. "He went on to bigger and better things at Wigan and lost his way again."
