Blackburn chairman John Williams has confirmed that the club have lodged an increased bid for an unnamed striker.
Rovers have been left short in the attacking department following the departure of Benni McCarthy to West Ham in the January transfer window and the return of loan star Franco di Santo to his parent club Chelsea.
At present neither has been replaced, with Sam Allardyce yet to address the issue.
He is, however, planning to recruit before the new season gets underway and has already identified potential targets.
Blackburn are now doing their utmost to get deals pushed through, with Williams revealing that they are now waiting on an answer to their latest offer for a proven frontman.
He told the Lancashire Telegraph: "We have made an improved offer for a player and are waiting to hear the outcome of it. Negotiations will be ongoing this week."
Although the identity of the man in question is being kept under wraps, Rovers have been strongly linked with a number of strikers this summer.
Among the more likely candidates to be heading to Ewood Park are Manchester City's Brazilian forward Jo and Mainz's Burkina Faso international Aristide Bance.
