Portuguese facing weeks on the sidelines with ligament damage

Hannover winger Sergio Pinto is facing several weeks on the sidelines after sustaining suspected ankle ligament damage. The Portuguese suffered the injury in Saturday's 3-0 defeat at defending Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich when he landed awkwardly in an aerial challenge with Toni Kroos. Pinto has since undergone initial medical examinations and it was diagnosed that he has damaged external ligaments in his left ankle. "That was a setback for us," manager Mirko Slomka told Kicker after the defeat to Bayern. "I hope nothing is broken." Pinto was the player who fouled Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Michael Ballack at the beginning of the season and put the former Chelsea star out for the remainder of 2010.
