Lille land Polish striker on a free transfer

Poland international striker Ireneusz Jelen has joined reigning French champions Lille on a free transfer. The 30-year-old severed ties with Auxerre earlier in the summer after allowing his contract to run down. He follows Benoit Pedretti in making a switch from Auxerre to Lille during the current transfer window. "I am very happy to have joined LOSC," Jelen told the club's official website. "This is a good club who achieved a great double last season. Having played against them in the past, I know how hard they are to play against and I know the quality." Jelen had been with Auxerre since 2006, having made his name with Wisla Plock, where he scored 59 goals in 126 appearances. His strike rate was almost as impressive in France, and he leaves Auxerre with a total of 59 goals in 164 appearances in all competitions.
