Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray expects Loris Arnaud to resume his trial with the club in the New Year.
The Paris St Germain forward returned home late last week after spending several days at Rockcliffe Park.
It is believed the 24-year-old Frenchman has been told by the Ligue 1 club he can leave on a free transfer.
Mowbray thinks the conditions were not ideal for Arnaud to shine while he also missed out on a development game.

"He's gone home, he's probably going to come back in January," Mowbray told the
Evening Gazette.
"It was a bit unfair last week with the weather more than anything else.
"A development game got cancelled on Tuesday that we were going to play him in. It wasn't really fair on him.
"The preparation of the team was all-important over the last few days so it wasn't really a full training week so he's going to come back in the New Year and we will have another look."
Meanwhile, Mike Havenaar is expected to join Bundesliga side Wolfsburg after Boro boss Mowbray revealed he had made an enquiry about the Japan striker.
Mowbray added: "I think we did make an enquiry but I think he's probably going to Germany."
