Marcos Angeleri's Sunderland nightmare could soon be at an end with his agent hoping to secure a move back to Argentina.
The 29-year-old joined the Black Cats in a £1.5million deal in the summer of 2010 with an impressive reputation having helped Estudiantes to the Copa Libertadores the previous year.
But two years on from being signed by former boss Steve Bruce he is yet to start a Premier League game.
The Argentina international had suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury while still with Estudiantes in his homeland and that soon flared up again in a pre-season friendly with Benfica at his new club.
After sitting out much of his first season, Angeleri once again went under the knife in 2011 and did not feature at all for Sunderland last season.
Although he still has two years remaining on his deal with Martin O'Neill's men, the player's agent Miguel Pires is eyeing a switch to Argentine club Independiente.
Pires said: "Next week I am going to have a meeting with the officials of Independiente for resolving the situation of Marcos Angeleri.
"He wants to return to Argentina, and even more to a team like Independiente."
