Burnley defender Kevin Long has signed a new deal with the club, just days after he was ruled out of the remainder of the season with a knee injury.

Long made his Premier League debut as a substitute in the 3-3 draw at Newcastle on New Year’s Day but had to be replaced himself after rupturing his cruciate ligament having fallen badly.

Clarets boss Sean Dyche confirmed the extent of Long’s injury after his side’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham in the FA Cup on Monday night.

Long, who joined Burnley as a 19-year-old, was out of contract in the summer but has now agreed a new deal which keeps him at Turf Moor until June 2017.

The former Cork City player previously had loan spells at Accrington Stanley, Rochdale and Portsmouth.
