Birmingham have signed former Aston Villa defender Shane Lowry until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old moves to St Andrew's after leaving Leyton Orient last month having already had a trial spell at Blues.

Lowry exercised the right in his contract to leave Orient after their relegation from Sky Bet League 1 last season.

He started his career at Birmingham's rivals Villa but made just three substitute appearances in four years before leaving in 2012.

Lowry, who has also had loan spells at Leeds, Plymouth and Sheffield United, joined Millwall and played 82 games before spending last season at Brisbane Road, playing 40 times.
